Paper

Hemp paper is probably the most commonly known use for hemp in the United States. Some of the first cigarette rolling papers were made from hemp. Hemp is also used around the world to make bible paper, coffee and vacuum filters, and almost every other paper product available. Hemp is ideal for making paper because it is stronger, can be recycled more often, and lasts much longer than paper made from trees. In addition, hemp hurds can produce at least four times more paper per acre than trees. Because of increased yields and improved technology, the amount of paper that can be made per acre of hemp is rising. Unfortunately, it is illegal to grow hemp in the United States, and though hemp is a cheaper and more renewable resource, it is expensive to import raw materials or manufactured goods from other countries.
